Dr. Carla M. Payne Biography
Dr. Payne received her master's degree in Educational Psychology from the University of San Francisco in 1986, and her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in 2009. Her first career was in English as a Second Language instruction and curriculum design. She created and delivered business English instruction to executive-level non-native English speakers at companies including Sony, Hewlitt-Packard, and NCR. She is the author of INFORM, An Interactive Magazine for Learning English, and English the PROS Way (PROS Publishing, Osaka,Japan). She has many years' experience in counseling injured workers through transitions into modified work or new careers. She has also worked as a recruiter, placing executive-level scientists in better-paying jobs during the first years of the biotechnology boom, negotiating salary and benefit packages worth up to 25% more. She is considered an expert in the treatment of addictions which co-occur with personality disorders such as narcissism, borderline personality, and antisocial personality. She was mentored by greats including Elizabeth Bigelow, Suresh Kanekar, A. Thomas Horvath, William Grimes, and Gary Lawson.
